Ursus Breweries was the subsidiary of SABMiller in Romania
Ursus is the symbol of our local roots, representing our Romanian heritage and also the name of one of our flagship brands in the company’s portfolio.
Breweries denote the international status of the company as part of one of the biggest beer producers in the world, SABMiller.
The history of SABMiller in Romania begins in 1996 when South African Breweries purchased Vulturul Brasov. A year later, South African Breweries acquired Pitber Pitesti and URSUS S.A Cluj-Napoca. In 2001, URSUS S.A buys the majority stake of Timisoreana Beer S.A.
Since 2002, URSUS S.A and Timisoreana SA merged into a single integrated company, named Beer Company Romania S.A.
In 2004, SABMiller plc acquired the majority stake of Aurora Brasov, a company that will merge in the same year with Beer Company Romania S.A. A year later, in 2005, the new name of SABMiller`s operations in Romania becomes Ursus Breweries.
Ursus Breweries has a diversified portfolio of international and Romanian brands:
Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Pilsner Urquell, Miller Genuine Draft (MGD, Grolsch, Ursus, Redd`s, Timisoreana, Ciucas, Stejar, Azuga.
Currently, Ursus Breweries has three breweries in Brasov, Buzau and Timisoara and a mini-unit of production in Cluj. The company operates from its premises in Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Buzau, Brasov and Bucharest.
Ursus Breweries is a joint stock company, administered in the dual system, based in Bucharest, Calea Victoriei, no. 145 et. 4-5, sector 1, with the Trade Registry number J40/20456/2005 of 06/12/2005 and unique registration code 199095.
